It’s official: we’re in demand!

I heard a fab interview with @resourcefulgoddess Cat Fletcher of @thisisfreegle yesterday on BBC Radio 4’s Gap Finders - a kindred spirit in the fight against waste.

‘We probably never need to make another coffee mug or canvas bag’ was one of my favourite takeaways plus obviously the one that speaks directly to Mend by Mail: “There’s a whole field in business that needs to grow around repair and reuse and refurbishment”

I so enjoyed hearing everything she had to say. It’s incredible to have taken the feelings about waste and overconsumption that she expressed so eloquently and then do such practical, proactive things to address them. On days when it feels like I’m climbing a mountain trying to make clothes repair make economic sense, inspiring words like hers give me the motivation for the next stretch.

I couldn’t agree more that addressing and changing wasteful consumerist habits needs an ecosystem of people, businesses and organisations 🙌

Charity shops, free cycle communities and second hand clothes marketplaces go hand in hand with what we do. We often get repair requests from customers who spotted a treasure in one of these places and had the vision to see past a hole, a rip or broken zip. Our seamstresses even source clothes from charity shops to mend garments we’ve been sent.

Let’s keep supporting each other in our shared mission to protect and care for our resources, reduce waste and create a real shift in consumer habits towards a sustainable future.
